Maximum Precision: Industrial Proportional Control Valves
⚙️ Maximum Precision: Industrial Proportional Control Valves
What is a Proportional Control Valve and Why is it Critical?
In industrial facilities, keeping variables such as **flow, pressure, and temperature** constant at desired values in heating, cooling, steam, and process lines is essential for production quality and energy efficiency. This control is achieved through Proportional Control Valves (Control Valves). A control valve receives a command signal (pneumatic or electric) and continuously and gradually changes the flow cross-section (modulation), thus precisely regulating the amount of fluid in the process.
As ORFA Industrial, the control valves we offer are high-performance solutions designed to meet the need for precise control.
⚡️ Actuator Technologies: Pneumatic or Electric?
Proportional control valves are equipped with actuators that convert the signal into mechanical motion. There are two main actuator options:
1. Pneumatic Actuators (Fast and Reliable)
- **Principle:** Moves the valve stem using compressed air (e.g., max. 6 bar supply pressure). Features a reversible pneumatic actuator and a diaphragm.
- **Advantage:** Preferred for fast response time, simple structure, especially in emergencies (quick shut-off), and applications requiring high force.
2. Electric Actuators (Precise and Programmable)
- **Advantage:** High-precision positioning, easy integration into automation systems (e.g., with additional devices like potentiometers), and low energy consumption.
Additional Safety: Models with a **fail-safe** function (moving to a safe position in case of failure) are available.
⚙️ Technical Superiorities
These valves are designed to high standards for demanding industrial conditions:
- **Wide Size and Pressure Range:** Diameters from DN15 to DN150 and nominal pressure classes from PN16 to PN40. Material options include 5.3103, 1.0619+N, and 1.4581.
- **Sealing Performance:** Conforms to **Sealing Class IV** as standard. **Sealing Class VI** (maximum 200°C) can be optionally achieved with a soft-seated parabolic plug.
- **Wide Rangeability:** Offers precise control over a wide range, such as **50:1**, with a parabolic plug.
- **Mechanical Design:** Features a screwed seat ring, shaft-guided plug, and a **blow-out protected stem**.
- **Packing for Critical Applications:** Bellows seal (stainless steel) options are available for applications requiring high temperature and emission control (between -60°C and +450°C).
Correct Selection and Sizing: ORFA Expertise
Correct sizing (Kvs value) and selecting the right flow characteristic (Equal Percentage / Linear) are critical for the control valve to operate at maximum efficiency.
ORFA Industrial supports you with ARI's powerful software tool, **myValve®**. This program uses process data (fluid, temperature, pressure drop, noise level) to help you select the most suitable control valve for your system. It includes an integrated database with over 160 fluids and provides instant access to order information, spare parts drawings, and data sheets related to the selected product.
