Globe Valve Working Principle
Main Components:
Body: The body, which forms the basic structure of the globe valve, lowers the line through which the fluid passes. The GG-25 cast iron material used in ORFA's globe valves is designed to withstand high pressures and temperatures.
Valve (Disc): The moving part within the valve is the element that allows the fluid to stop or allow its passage. Disc made of AISI420 stainless steel is resistant to high temperatures and has a long service life. The disc moves up or down in a vertical motion.
Sit (Seating Surface): It is the surface on which the disc closes and sits. AISI The seat made of 420 stainless steel offers a durable and reliable structure to ensure the sealing of the fluid.
Working Mechanism:
The globe valve is basically designed to adjust the flow rate of the fluid and stop the flow completely when necessary. When the valve is fully closed, the valve disc fits snugly onto the metal seat. In this case, the passage of fluid is completely prevented and full sealing is achieved. When the valve is opened, the disc moves upwards and separates from the seating surface. This movement allows fluid to pass through the valve. The higher the disc moves, the larger the area through which the fluid passes and the greater the flow rate. This way, the valve allows maximum flow when it is in the fully open position. When it is fully closed, the flow is stopped completely.
Flow and Pressure Control:
Globe valves can cause higher pressure losses than other valves because the direction of the fluid changes several times along its path through the body. After the flow enters the valve body, it has to pass through the gap between the valve and the seat. This causes the flow to change direction instead of proceeding in a linear line, increasing the pressure loss. However, this feature makes globe valves an ideal option, especially in applications where flow needs to be precisely controlled.
Sealing:
Globe valves stand out with their ability to allow bi-directional flow and strong sealing performance. Internal sealing is ensured by perfect contact between the disc and the seating surface. Sealing against the atmosphere is achieved by using wire braided graphite gasket or pure graphite gasket. In addition, the sealing in the shaft area is ensured by the stuffing box, minimizing the risk of leakage to the outside.
