A lug-type butterfly valve is a disc that rotates around a shaft positioned vertically. When installed, it rotates around its own axis, creating a disc that opens or closes a full pipe section. Sealing is achieved between the metal flap and the elastic or plastic sealing elements lining the body. The sealing element also serves as a gasket on the flange between the valve and the pipe. Advantages of this type of valve include low pressure loss, easy opening and closing, good sealing, light weight, and a small footprint.
