Working Principle
Disc and Shaft Movement:
Disc: The primary closing element of the valve, the disc, rotates around a shaft positioned vertically. In the fully open position, the disc allows fluid to pass freely, while in the fully closed position, it completely stops flow.
Shaft: The disc rotates around an axis called a shaft. The shaft provides the rotation, either manually or with the help of an actuator. In the geared type, this rotation is achieved with greater precision and control via the geared motor.
Opening and Closing Mechanism:
Open Position: When the shaft rotates 90 degrees with the disc, the disc becomes parallel to the pipeline and allows the fluid to pass freely in the fully open position.
Closed Position: When the shaft rotates 90 degrees with the disc, the disc becomes perpendicular to the pipeline and completely blocks the passage of fluid in the fully closed position.
Sealing:
EPDM Seal: The seal between the disc and the valve body is provided by an EPDM seal, an elastic or plastic sealing element. EPDM offers excellent sealing and corrosion resistance.
Sealing Function: The EPDM seal also doubles the sealing by acting as a seal on the flange between the valve and the pipe.
Geared Actuator:
Reducer: A reducer actuator is used to open and close the valve. The reducer slows down the rotation, providing more precise and controlled disc movement. This feature is especially important for large-diameter valves (DN350 and above).
Actuator Types: Actuators connected to the valve shaft can be manual, electric or pneumatic, providing flexibility and ease of use to the user.
Assembly and Control:
Wafer Type Connection: Wafer type butterfly valves are mounted between flanges. During installation, the disc and shaft should be checked for free movement.
Stem Position: The stem can be in either a horizontal or vertical position. However, horizontal installation is preferred for valves DN300 and larger.
