Wafer Type Butterfly Valve with Electric Actuator

ORFA Industrial Products Industry and Trade Inc. sells its Wafer-type electric-actuated butterfly valves, which have a wide range of applications. Butterfly valves are notable for their lightweight construction and minimize pressure loss, used to control and direct fluids in pipelines. These electric-actuated models can be integrated into automation systems, providing remote control and operational efficiency.

Product Features:
Body: GG25 Cast Iron
Valve: GGG40.3 Nickel Coated Ductile Iron
Shaft: AISI 420 Stainless Steel
Gasket: H-EPDM
Connections: Wafer Type
Maximum Operating Temperature: 130 ºC
Working Pressure: PN16
Actuator Types: Electric Actuator

Technical Information:
In butterfly valves, the closing element consists of a disc rotating around a shaft positioned vertically. When installed, this disc rotates around its axis, completely opening or closing the pipe section. Sealing is achieved between the metal flap and the elastic or plastic sealing elements lining the body. The sealing element also serves as a gasket on the flange between the valve and the pipe.

The advantages of these valves include low pressure losses, easy opening and closing, high sealing, light weight and small footprint.

Butterfly Valve Wafer Type Electric Actuator Working Principle:

Butterfly valves are an important type of valve used to control fluid flow in pipelines. Wafer-type butterfly valves stand out with their compact design and lightweight construction. Electric actuated models enable integration with automation systems, providing remote control and operational efficiency. In this article, we will detail the operating principles of wafer-type electric actuated butterfly valves.

1. Basic Structure and Components:
The basic components of a butterfly valve include the body, disc, stem, and sealing elements. Electric actuator models also include an electric motor and control unit.

Body: It is the part that forms the external structure of the valve and is mounted on the pipeline.
Valve: A rotating disc used to stop or release the flow of fluid. Made of GGG40.3 nickel-plated ductile iron.
Shaft: Stainless steel rod used to rotate the valve. Made of AISI 420 stainless steel.
Sealing Elements: H-EPDM seal ensures sealing between the valve and the body.

2. Role of Electric Actuator :
In electric-actuated butterfly valves, the valve is opened and closed by an electric motor. The actuator converts electrical energy into mechanical motion and rotates on the shaft. This rotation causes the disc to rotate around its axis. The actuator controls fluid flow by rotating the disc to a specific angle.

Opening Operation: With the command from the electric actuator, the shaft rotates the valve up to 90 degrees. The valve then moves to a vertical position, releasing flow into the pipeline.
Closing Operation: With the closing command from the electric actuator, the shaft rotates the damper 90 degrees. The damper then moves to a horizontal position, shutting off the flow in the pipeline.

3. Sealing and Pressure Control:
Sealing is achieved by an H-EPDM gasket located between the valve and the body. When the valve is closed, the gasket tightly seals around the valve, preventing fluid leakage. In a wafer-type installation, the butterfly valve is held firmly between the flanges, and the gasket also ensures a leak-proof connection to the pipeline.

4. Advantages:
Quick and Easy Control: Thanks to electric actuators, the opening and closing operations of the valve are carried out quickly and easily.
Remote Control: Remote control is provided by integrating with automation systems.
High Sealing: Perfect sealing is achieved with the H-EPDM gasket, which is important for energy efficiency and safety.
Compact and Lightweight Design: Wafer type butterfly valves offer ease of installation and maintenance thanks to their compact and lightweight structure.

Areas of Use:
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
Water treatment and distribution systems
Mining industry
Shipbuilding and drilling facilities
Sugar industry, food and chemical enterprises
Fire extinguishing systems
Water, seawater, dust, gas, wastewater and air

Installation and Usage Recommendations:
During valve installation, care must be taken to ensure that the disc moves freely.
The valve stem can be in horizontal or vertical position, but horizontal installation should be preferred for diameters of DN300 and above.
The use of reducer-type butterfly valves is recommended for all diameters. For butterfly valves DN350 and larger, only reducer-type butterfly valves are available.
