The Valbia Double-Acting Pneumatic Actuator performs both opening and closing movements thanks to its dual-port air inlets. This actuator rotates at a specific angle starting from 0° and has a 180° rotation capacity. Its robust construction and pressed aluminum body ensure long-lasting use. Working Principle
Compressed Air Inlet: Double-acting actuators have two separate inlet ports: one for forward motion (opening) and the other for reverse motion (closing). Compressed air is directed into the cylinder through these ports. Depending on which port is supplied with air, the piston moves in different directions.
Forward Movement (Opening): During the opening process, compressed air is delivered to one side of the cylinder, causing the piston to move forward. This movement opens the valve, gate, or other mechanical element to which the actuator is attached. Forward movement occurs when the compressed air within the cylinder expands in the space behind the piston, forcing the air outward at the other end of the piston.
Reverse Movement (Closing): For closing, compressed air is directed to the other port. This time, it reverses the forward movement of the piston, causing it to return. The piston's reverse movement closes the valve or returns other mechanical elements to their initial position.
Rotary Motion: In double-acting pneumatic actuators, the linear motion of the piston is converted into rotary motion via a rack and pinion system. This rotary motion typically occurs at an angle of 90° or 180°. The actuator's starting and ending angles determine the opening and closing positions of the controlled valve.
