Gate Valve API 600 Working Principle
High-pressure gate valves are designed to control fluid flow, particularly under high pressure and temperature conditions. Manufactured in accordance with API 600 standards, these valves are widely preferred in the industry for their reliability and performance. The basic operating principle of gate valves is to regulate fluid flow using a slide mechanism. This mechanism allows the valve to open and close and direct the fluid.
Slide Mechanism
Gate valves contain a disc called a spool. This spool controls fluid flow by moving up and down within the valve body. The spool is positioned between two sealing rings, creating a perfect seal as it moves between them. Spool mechanisms generally fall into two types: flexible spools and rigid spools. Flexible spools can compensate for minor misalignments, while rigid spools are more robust and durable.
Opening and Closing Operation
Gate valves are opened and closed by the up and down movement of the slide. This movement is achieved by rotating the valve's spindle. The spindle can be rotated manually using a handwheel or by electric/automatic actuators.
Opening Process: When the spindle is rotated upward, the slide moves upward, opening the fluid passageway. In this state, the valve is fully open, allowing fluid to flow freely. When the valve is fully open, fluid flow occurs with minimal resistance, minimizing pressure loss.
Closing Operation: When the spindle is rotated downward, the slide moves downward, closing the fluid passage. In this state, the valve is fully closed, completely stopping fluid flow. This fully closed position prevents fluid leakage and ensures a complete seal in the system.
