The Ayvaz KV-17 Pneumatic Actuated Butterfly Valve is a lightweight and compact valve that minimizes pressure loss, is easy to open and close, and provides excellent sealing. The closing element is a disc rotating around a shaft positioned vertically. This disc, when installed, rotates around its axis to open or close the entire pipe section. Sealing is achieved between the aluminum bronze disc and the elastic or plastic sealing elements lining the body. The sealing element also serves as a gasket on the flange between the valve and the pipe.

Wafer-type butterfly valves are effective and efficient components used in fluid control. Equipped with a double-acting pneumatic actuator, these valves operate with a principle that ensures fast and reliable fluid flow management.
Basic Working Mechanism
In wafer-type butterfly valves, the disc, called the closing element, rotates around a shaft positioned vertically. This disc, mounted within the valve body, controls the flow of fluid. The disc can rotate 90 degrees around its axis; this rotation allows the valve to be fully open or fully closed.
Double Acting Pneumatic Actuator
A double-acting pneumatic actuator uses compressed air to open and close the valve. This type of actuator uses air pressure for both opening and closing. The operating principle of a double-acting pneumatic actuated wafer-type butterfly valve is explained step by step below:
Opening Process:
- Compressed air enters the actuator through the inlet port and moves the pistons inside the actuator.
- The pistons rotate the valve disc, which is connected to the actuator shaft, allowing the valve to open.
- When the disc rotates 90 degrees, the valve is fully open and fluid can pass freely.
Closing Process:
- Compressed air enters the actuator through the other inlet port and moves the pistons in the opposite direction.
- This movement rotates the disc, allowing the valve to close.
- When the disc rotates 90 degrees, the valve becomes fully closed and the fluid flow stops.
Sealing and Security
Butterfly valves' sealing elements are provided between the metal clack and the elastic or plastic sealing elements lining the inside of the body. These sealing elements prevent fluid leakage when the valve is in the closed position. These elements also act as a gasket on the flange between the valve and the pipe, eliminating the need for additional gaskets during installation.
