Rising Shaft Valve

The Rising Stem Valve (RS&Y) is a high-performance valve used as a regional control and shut-off valve in fire systems. This valve was developed with a monitoring switch to separate two compartments and ensure fire safety. The valve stem clearly indicates the fully open and fully closed positions by turning the handwheel. Monitoring switches, mounted in grooves on the stem, allow the valve's open and closed positions to be transmitted to automation systems via dry contact, allowing for easy monitoring of the valve's status. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Advantages:
Low Pressure Loss: Compared to other control and cut-off valves, the pressure loss is lower, thus the pump pressure can be reduced.
Easy Traceability: Thanks to monitoring switches, valve status can be easily monitored in automation systems.
Durability: ASTM B 62 bronze body and cover material provides high durability and long-lasting use.

Disadvantages:
Space Occupancy: It takes up more space than other control and shut-off valves.
Not Economical: It has a higher cost compared to other valves.

Rising Stem Valve (RS&Y) Working Principle

Shaft Movement:
A rising stem valve operates by turning the handwheel (the part that is turned by hand). Turning the handwheel moves the stem up or down. Moving the stem up opens the valve, while moving it down closes it. This movement changes the position of the disc or flap inside the valve, controlling the flow.

Opening the Valve:
Turning the Handwheel: To open the valve, the handwheel is turned clockwise. This moves the shaft upward.
Upward Movement of the Disc: As the stem moves upward, it pulls the disc upward as well. This opens the flow path within the valve, allowing flow to pass freely.
Fully Open Position: When the stem is fully up, the valve reaches the fully open position, allowing maximum flow. This position is easily identified by viewing the stem from the outside.

Closing the Valve:
Turning the Handwheel: To close the valve, the handwheel is turned counterclockwise. This moves the spindle down.
Disc Downward Movement: As the stem moves downward, it pushes the disc downward. This closes the flow path inside the valve, stopping the flow.
Fully Closed Position: When the stem is fully down, the valve reaches the fully closed position, completely shutting off flow. This position can be identified by the fact that the stem is no longer visible from the outside.

Monitoring Keys:
Position Monitoring: Rising Stem Valves can be equipped with monitoring switches to monitor the stem position. These switches are mounted in grooves on the stem and monitor the stem's up or down movement.
Dry Contact Information: Monitoring switches provide an open or closed signal based on the shaft position. This signal is transmitted to automation systems as a dry contact, indicating whether the valve is open or closed.

Durability and Reliability:
Material Quality: Rising Stem Valves are manufactured with high-quality materials, including ASTM B 62 bronze body and bonnet, ASTM B 371 bronze stem, and asbestos-free Klingerite seal. This ensures the valve's longevity and durability.
Operating Conditions: With a maximum operating pressure of 175 PSI and an operating temperature of 80 ºC, these valves provide reliable performance even in harsh conditions.

Application Areas:
Rising Stem Valves have a wide range of applications. They are typically used in pump suction and discharge lines before water tanks. They can be used in many locations throughout the fire system, excluding powder and gas extinguishing applications. According to NFPA standards, OS&Y Rising Stem Valves are not required to be used in pump discharge lines.

Rising Shaft Valves, sold by ORFA Industrial Products Industry and Trade Inc. , are critical for fire safety and control. Their durable construction, low pressure loss, and traceability make them safe for use in fire systems.
