Working Principle of Lug Type Double Acting Pneumatic Actuated Butterfly Valve
A lug-type, double-acting, pneumatic-actuated butterfly valve is a type of valve designed to control flow in industrial systems. The valve is installed in a pipeline and operates by rotating a disc to regulate the flow of fluid. The disc's rotation is achieved via a spindle mounted in the valve body, which is controlled by a pneumatic actuator.
Butterfly Valve Operating Mechanism
Disc Position: When the valve is in the closed position, the disc completely closes the pipeline, perpendicular to the direction of flow. In the open position, the disc becomes parallel to the direction of flow, allowing fluid to pass freely.
Pneumatic Actuator: A double-acting pneumatic actuator has two separate air chambers where air is applied to the valve stem. One chamber is pressurized, pushing the stem in one direction, while the other is evacuated. When this process is reversed, the stem and the disc to which it is attached move in the opposite direction. This allows the valve to switch between open and closed positions quickly and reliably.
Sealing: The seal between the disc and the valve body is typically achieved with an elastomeric or plastic gasket material. This material maximizes sealing and minimizes friction between the disc and the body, allowing the disc to rotate smoothly.
Lug Connection: The lug-type connection allows the valve body to be easily mounted on flanged pipes. This connection type provides excellent retention, even under high pressure, thanks to the strong connections made by screws on both sides of the valve body.
